You are a responsible person, and you do your part to protect the environment. That is because our generation was the one that realized we were at the edge of destruction. It is yet to be seen if our efforts have been enough, but the responsibility will soon be in the hands of our children. The greatest thing you can do for the future of the environment is to pass on your concern for our natural world. The Ocean is a great symbol of the environment and a great place to start teaching about the importance of caring for all ecosystems. Here are some things you can do to get them thinking.

  • Go Whale Watching:Not only is this a great adventure and a holiday experience. It is something that should affect your child for the rest of their lives. There are few creatures in the world more Iconic and majestic than the Whales. You can go whale watching on the Sapphire Coast during the whale watching season, which is a great way to spend the day. Watching a whale in real life will bring a strong connection to the creatures of the sea. Whales are an indication of the health of our marine environments and a great demonstration of the wonderful things that live beneath the sea.
  • Clean a Waterway:All water ends up in the ocean eventually. You don’t have to live by the sea to help take care of it. Find a waterway that has been neglected and make a day of collecting the garbage and hauling It away to recyclers or a landfill. Your kids will soon find the fun in it, and it will be an excellent bonding experience with you and your children. They will leave with a sense of accomplishment and a new connection to the watery world.
  • Aquariums:There is no greater teaching tool for learning about aquatic life than aquariums. Aquariums bring water ecosystems right into our world and we can learn every aspect of what underwater creatures need to thrive and be successful. You can have an aquarium in your home, or you can visit one of the excellent public aquariums and make a whole day of it

Whatever you choose to do, make sure you impress upon your children the importance of protecting our natural world.  Our generation is aware of the dangers of neglect, but it is important that they carry our concerns into the future, for the benefit of all nature, and for humanity as well.
